TLC for Kids’ curriculum is designed to achieve the most effective balance between analytical and creative thinking. This balance creates an ideal environment for learning and processing ideas and information. Established teaching techniques enhance students’ thinking capacity and increase their ability to absorb and retain more meaningful information.
The program includes a wide range of subjects, specially tailored to students based on their age and reading ability.
Toddler Activities & Exercises
TLC for Kids welcomes students as young as 18 months of age. Activities for toddlers have been created to introduce them to learning along with classmates, assist in their development of fine and gross motor skills, and prepare them for entrance into a formal school environment.
Songs, finger plays, and hands-on activities further develop their pre-literacy skills and promote reading readiness.
*Parents actively participate in all toddler classes.
Teaching Methods
TLC for Kids incorporates a number of integrated teaching methods in its curriculum. Together, they help children master the art of learning.
1. Flashcards
Image-based educational methods are an integral part of TLC for Kids curriculum. Picture cards are flashed at students to develop their memory and used within “picture plays,” where the cards tell a story as they’re flashed to songs with educational lyrics. Themes range from US geography, US history, world geography, and world history to nature, art, science, math concepts and idioms.
2. Dots
Dot cards are used to teach numerical concepts, spatial relationships, and mathematical equations, especially for young children who are not yet able to recognize numerals.
3. Recitation
Introducing children to nursery rhymes and poems at an early age encourages auditory and speech development and promotes reading skills. Verses are sent home with students along with an accompanying CD for at-home auditory training. At the beginning of each session, students recite the selected verse from memory to the rest of the class.
4. Memory Strategies & Games
TLC for Kids employs various memory enhancement techniques to enable students to recall information more effectively:
· Peg & Link
· Mnemonics
· Puzzles
· Games
· Mazes
Games foster concentration and observation abilities. These hands-on activities reinforce the topics introduced via flashcards and develop their image recognition, language, math, patterning, and comprehension skills.
5. Worksheets
Unique worksheet exercises teach students how to comprehend word and mathematical problems, and prepare them for traditional schools by developing positive homework habits.
Students complete math, phonics, and rhyming worksheets, which are appropriate to their individual abilities. They further learn to memorize math facts and vocabulary through related songs and activities.
Parent Participation
TLC for Kids encourages all parents to participate in the learning process with their children. We recognize the importance of building the parent-child relationship and support all opportunities to bring parents and their children closer together.
